New Feature! Link Description.

Affiliate links can be a nightmare to distinguish from each other, so how can you tell the difference between these links? Well the answer at d8p.us is the ability to give each link its own short description.

To add a description to the links you have made simply click on the [Modify/Delete Link] hyperlink and fill in the Add/Change Description field and click the button next to it!

It’s Here! Edit/Delete/Reset Your Links!

It’s here at last, our NEW link management module is in! Now you’ll be able to manage your links in the following ways:

• Reset your stats on a link by link basis – Changed a promotion or just want to start afresh, clear the stats on a link and see how your new creation is doing!
• Move a link to another group – You can move a link to another of your user defined groups or create a new group to put it in, to make keeping track of your links easier.
• Delete a link – No longer need that link? Then you can keep your account clutter free by deleting it.
• Change link destination – Change your shortened URL to point to your new website or maybe just correct a typo you made in creating an old link!

To start modifying your links you just need to click the modify/delete link hyperlink in your account. You will be taken the the new module and be presented with a series of options to modify your links with(see image).

Bot or Not! New Feature at d8p.us!

Our research has shown that a lot of the visits shortened links receive are actually from bots, crawlers, spiders etc and not REAL people. This can be difficult to spot sometimes (yeah those bots can be sneaky!), so we’ve added bot or not to our statistics pages. We’ve created a database of bots, crawlers, spiders etc which we’ll be updating regularly to compare your visitors against (see the end of the post for details on how you can help to keep the bot database updated). The image below shows an example of the new stats layout, showing bot and human visitors.

Keeping Track of Your Stats!

At d8p.us we not only shorten your URLS into twitter/facebook/e-mail/etc friendly links, if you register an account you’ll also be able to collect statistics on who visits the links you have shortened.

At the moment we collect the following information about the people who visit your links:

• Total Visitors
• Unique Visitors
• Country
• IP Address
• Date and Time of visit
• Browser & Operating System
• Referring URL (Find out where your traffic comes from!)

With d8p.us you can assemble your links into user defined groups that allow you to organise your links in a more manageable way.

You can also use our WordPress plugin to Tweet to your twitter account whenever you create a new post or update an old one! For more information about the plugin please read this post.

D8P.US Twitter Updater WordPress Plugin – Install Instructions

The WordPress plugin has been tested on versions 2.7 to 2.9.2. To get your plugin follow these simple steps:

1. Visit the d8p.us website and register your FREE account.
2. From the My Account page click the Download “Twitter Updater d8p.us version” and get your API-Key link.
3. Make a note of your API-KEY and right click on the download link and choose the Save Target As or Save Link As (Depending upon your browser).
4. Once you have saved the zip file to your hard-drive go to your WordPress blog admin section and choose the Plugins option from the menu on the left hand side of the page.
5. Select Add New plugin from the options and then Upload from the next set of options. Browse your computer for the zip file you saved and upload this file.
6. When asked if you want to activate the plugin select Yes.
7. Now from the menu on the left select Twitter Updater from the Settings tab.
8. Fill in the first part of the form with the relevant details (Your API-KEY is the key provided from the d8p.us website from step 3 of these guide) then click the Save Options buttons. Next fill in your Twitter log in details and click the Save Login button.
9. You’re Finished! Now when you create a new post or edit an old one a notification will be posted on your twitter account!

Below is an Example of the plugin’s output to twitter (the actual output is customisable in the Twitter Updater Settings so you can change it to suit your purposes):
